- Read the contract prior to purchase; know what is and isn't
covered.
- Does the kitten have clean ears and clear eyes? Is it free
from visible parasites? Make sure the kitten doesn't have sniffles
or a runny nose.
- Kittens should be 10-12 weeks old and not younger at placement.
- Kittens and cats should be free of diarreah. Check under
the tail to verify the area is clean and free of redness.
- Cats and kittens coats should not be "greasy looking".
This may be a sign of ill health.
- Has this kitten/cat ever seen the vet?
- If paying for a purebred kitten/cat, does it come with papers?
- Is the kitten/cat being sold as a pet, breeder or show kitten/cat?

- Be sure your kitten has received it's first two vaccinations
prior to placement.
- The kitten/cat should be playful, interactive and curious.
Some timidity upon first meeting may be normal. Avoid a listless
kitten/cat.
- Do other cats and kittens in the environment look healthy?
- Is the raised environment clean?
- How has your kitten been socialized...ask.
- Is the cat/kitten faithful in its litter box habits?
- Does the kitten/cat come with a health record?
- Does the kitten/cat come with a contract?
- What tests have been performed on the kitten/cat and its
parents (Felv/FIV.. some breeders are also testing for HCM, PKD,
Hips Dysplasia, etc.)
- Does the breeder have papers on the Sire/Dam?
